WALKING THE TALK

Job interviews, those that really matter that is, do not seem to be easier even if you have had numerous. Different people have different preferences and different things that they are looking for. And, going on a job interview is like selling yourself and your skills to the interviewer. Preparing for a job interview is like preparing for that big sales presentation. Job interviews are never just walks in the park. They are important events that should be prepared for with seriousness.

Here are several tips on how you can make that interview count:
1. Rehearse your interview. Think of the questions you might be asked and your practice your replies to these questions. Carefully craft your responses and practice saying them out loud, being careful not to make them sound canned. Avoid motherhood statements and alliterations – these are quite trite and could be considered to be bluffs or cover ups of your inadequacies. Focus on your successes. These are evidences of you actually putting your education, skills, and training to good use.
2. Get your gear prepped up. Your interview starts even before you open your mouth, as you walk into the door. Ready your outfit and make sure that you are dressed for the job you are applying for. Your garb need not be expensive nor does it have to have a signature label. Make sure you are attired neatly and professionally.
3. Do your research. Find out what the company you are applying to work for is all about. Knowing a bit about what their goals are and what their thrust is would give you an edge. Try to relate your skills to what the company is geared towards. Show them how your skills can contribute to their company.

Doing well in your job interviews would help you land that perfect job you are looking for. Remember to always be on time in your job interviews and stay calm. Be confident about yourself and accept those things that you cannot do. But, show that you are willing to learn. Armed with these tips, you should find it easy to waltz through your next job interview.
