Identifying the Perfect and Not-So Perfect Job References

Identifying the Perfect and Not-So Perfect Job References. Some companies would never really care of conducting an in-depth background and character check among its budding employees. While this is on some cases, there are still those companies who would go out their way and check every possible thing that should be checked in their chosen applicants. With this, you need to have good job references to close the deal for you.

Yes, job references are the ones who seal the deal as it is the last stage of your application process. The moment a company affirms to your application and you’ve passed their interviews and tests, references that you’ve provided are the ones being questioned in terms of your abilities and even your character. So, who are the people that should play as your reference? Let’s try to find out.
Who can be excellent job references?

You can have a mentor, a boss or a colleague to be your job reference. Make certain that these people have been witness to whom you are as a worker and as a person in general. They should be people you dealt with in the past or those you’ve been good associates with. In this fashion, you are certain that you can count on them in having strong references to back you up.
Who cannot be excellent job references?

Families and relatives do not count as references, it is a rule and you simply have to follow if you don’t want to mess up with your job application. People whom you have negative experiences with and those you do not come in good terms with should not be counted as your job reference. A former boss to whom is the reason of your resignation in your past company or an uncooperative co-worker should not be put to your lists of references. If you have past issues with these people, the sweetest revenge they could ever give you is muddle up with your job application. So, you have to be aware of whom you choose and whom you rebuff out of your choices.

Coast Die Casting Company closed their doors for a final time July 3, 2009. Coast Die Casting Company, was also known as CDC.

CDC was formerly owned by Mr. Dick Sawtelle. Dick was well respected in the die casting industry. So was his plant manager Mr. Bob Courts. Dick passed away and left CDC to his wife, Mrs. Sawtelle. Mrs Sawtelle ran the company many years successfully. When Mrs. Sawtelle passed away, Richard White, a long time employee, took over operations and purchased the business from the Sawtelle family.

Because CDC has been in existence for several years, CDC served many industries such as Consumer Products, Tooling Products, Aerospace Products and Aircraft Products.

In 2006, Kinetic Die Casting began negotiations for the purchase of CDC. There were a lot of opportunities available to CDC and Richard White at the time. Richard chose to continue operations and “weather the storm” so to speak, in his words. The economy has been very difficult for CDC, as with most die casting companies. CDC ran into a lot of difficulty over the last few years.

In 2009, Richard faced a lot more difficulty than he was prepared to meet. He ran into financial difficulties and other problems that prevented him from serving his customers. CDC was shipping jobs later and with a few quality problems. He was forced to “Out-Source” many of his production runs to satisfy his customers’ needs.

Good News For Coast Die Casting Company Customers

Richard White contacted Bob Thomas, President of Kinetic Die Casting on June 30, 2009. He asked if there was any interest in our buying his company. On July 3, 2009 we struck a deal for his business and support. Kinetic Die Casting started immediately serving the CDC customers. CDC shipped all the tooling to Kinetic Die Casting so the customers could get the parts they disparately needed right away.

Cover Sheets 101

Cover Sheets 101. You’ve decided to apply for a job. Your resume is ready, but you need a cover sheet or cover letter. What is a cover sheet? It is a simple, one-page letter which shows your intent in applying for the job. So how does one create a nice cover sheet which will impress employers?

Here are several tips:

1. Be direct to the point.

As mentioned above, it is a simple letter signifying your intent to apply for a job. Most of the time, that is all there is. So do not embellish it with anything, and do not use excessive words (especially adjectives) which will only make it look unprofessional.

2. Use a word processor.

As beautiful as your handwriting is, do not hand write it. It should be done professionally and neatly, by using a word processor.

3. Avoid fancy fonts, colors, and big sizes.

Do not attempt to fill the page by enlarging the font size. Cover sheets are meant to be short. Do not be tempted to make it ‘beautiful’ by using rainbow colors, and different fonts which you think are nice. Make it simple and professional! No frames, images, etc.

4. Be brief.

Cover sheets are one-pages and centered. Together with the resume, it is not folded but placed inside an envelope, usually a manila envelope, where it will fit without being folded.

5. Avoid mistakes.

As elementary as this sounds, many people still commit mistakes even in a two-sentence cover sheet, so read it over and over until you are sure that it is perfect. Simple typos and grammatical errors will be exaggerated in a cover sheet, as it is very brief. So before you hand it to your prospective employer, make sure it is error-free.
